Come to Contempo Art Glass, in Arlington, Texas and learn about basic and advanced glass weaving techniques from weaving master & kilnformed glass artist Larry Pile (www.larrypileglass.com).
The class will start with the basics; color theory, mold preparation, strip cutting and slumping, etc. and move into advanced techniques including custom mold-making, displaying our weaves, advanced strip preparation, creating weaves in various shapes, etc. A complete set of handouts, including firing schedules for slumping and tack-fusing will be shared.
Each student will make an 11” x 20” woven sculpture, a Silke Mat custom mold (that the student may take home for use in future projects) and will mount their weave on 1” acrylic tubing for a lovely, simple, offset wall display. All glass and materials will be provided in this amazing class.
Students will leave with technical and creative knowledge about how to design, build, fire and display a glass weave at a professional level. Students will develop an understanding of how to make a Silke Mat reusable mold. Students will learn an amazing way to cut 1” acrylic tubing and offset mount glass pieces inexpensively and beautifully.

The workshop involves learning on what equipment you will need to engrave on your glass. How to set up your piece to be engraved, what to engrave, and the steps required to arrive at a finished piece. Over the 2 days you will engrave on pieces of flat float glass and work your way up to engrave on bottles/carafes/vases.
Adding engraving to your glass pieces will elevate your glass to another level, and making it stand out from other glass artist’s work.

Adding designs to the surface of your glass is easy with the Stamping on Glass technique. During this workshop students will learn how to apply graphic images onto glass using frit, powdered enamels, Stamping Medium and rubber stamps. This class will cover the proper techniques for mixing enamels, transferring the enamel onto the rubber stamp and then from the stamp onto the glass. Students will create multiple stamped pieces that will be fired and incorporated into their class project and/or future projects. Information on using low and high fire enamels and firing schedules will be discussed in class. Whether used in jewelry, mosaic pieces, stained glass or large fused pieces, Stamping on Glass will add a unique beauty to your projects. Bullseye glass will be used in class. Students will create a 10-12” mosaic style plate that will be full fused and slumped for them.
Students need to bring: Glass cutter, safety glasses, running pliers, miscellaneous other favorite hand tools, apron and a NIOSH 95 approved particulate mask (for use with powdered enamels and micas).

Come sharpen your glass cutting skills! In this class the Morton Portable Glass Shop will be featured. The Morton System has provided hobbyists and professional glass Artists the ultimate tool for producing accurate and repetitive glass pieces. A brief portion of class will be dedicated to a discussion on cutting tools available and proper cutting technique, as well as how to easily cut a perfect circle (time permitting). Many styles of glass cutters will be available in class for participants to sample. Students will learn how to set up the MPGS for cutting strips, geometric shapes, angles, and how to quickly cut diamonds and triangles from strips and squares. Experienced glass artists all agree you will benefit greatly by understanding all the MPGS has to offer. Hands-on cutting and demonstrations will strengthen your Morton skills. Create 3 to 4 detailed pieces suitable for framing utilizing scrap glass, murrini, stringer and vitreous ink detail! Each student will create two to three 4” tiles and one 4x6” village. Students will learn construction techniques, quill pen work with vitreous ink and framing techniques. The tiles can be framed or displayed on stands. All firing schedules will be provided. Each student should leave class with a good understanding of how to replicate the processes in their own studios and ideas on how to detail their own work with ink.
No glass experience is required for this class.

All the way from Singapore/Malaysia, Michelle (Peter Kane’s wife) comes to Contempo, to share her wonderful skills in engraving on glass. Michelle has been a contract engraver for 14 years for Dior, Prada and most of the world’s fashion/cosmetic houses. Also engraving for the world-famous French glass company “Lalique”.
The workshop involves learning on what equipment you will need to engrave on your glass. How to set up your piece to be engraved, what to engrave, and the steps required to arrive at a finished piece. Over the 2 days you will engrave on pieces of flat float glass and work your way up to engrave on bottles/carafes/vases.
Adding engraving to your glass pieces will elevate your glass to another level, and making it stand out from other glass artist’s work.

Come to Contempo Art Glass, in Arlington, Texas and learn about the techniques and equipment to successfully make great photographs of glass and other small objects, such as jewelry, small vessels, etc.,
all from master photographer & kilnformed glass artist Larry Pile (www.larrypileglass.com).
The class will start with the basics; how cameras and lighting work and then how to use those attributes to make great photos of glass and other small objects, minimizing reflections and getting great, uncluttered backgrounds. Techniques/equipment will range from using a smart phone and inexpensive
lighting to using high-end DSLR/mirrorless cameras and studio lighting. When you’re finished with this class, you’ll have a solid understanding about successfully photographing small objects! As part of this class, students will also be encouraged to bring in a couple of pieces of theirs for the class to photograph; each student will leave with great, hi-resolution images of their work, as well as the skills about how todo this at home! We’ll also delve a little into photo editing using Adobe Lightroom, etc.

Each student will create one to two animals approximately 5 x 6” (size varies with the animals). The animals are suitable for hanging or other display. The class will focus on construction techniques, how to make and use vitreous ink with a quill pen and a framing method for displaying work. All firing schedules will be provided. Each student should leave class with a good understanding of how to replicate the processes in their own studios and ideas on how to detail their own work with ink.

Learn to Tackle the Torch with Rick Allen and Laura Conway. If you’ve ever wanted to solder silver and copper to make jewelry but are intimidated by the torch, this is the class for you. This class is for beginners and people that just want a refresher soldering class. You will learn to cut, file, texture, patina and solder while designing and creating a unique pendant using sterling silver and copper. All you need to bring is your imagination and be ready to have fun.
Class includes: Sterling silver, copper, sterling components, copper and sterling wire, jump rings, sterling chain, use of torch and all tools needed to complete your unique creation. Please feel free to bring your own tools that are clearly marked with your name.

This class will show you how to prepare the copper, apply enamels and torch fire your pieces to create your own wearable art. This class is an introduction to basic enameling and all supplies will be provided. All you need to is just show up with your imagination, a love for color and be ready to have fun. Supplies provided include copper, enamel, Jump rings, necklace and the use of a torch and all tools needed to complete your colorful creations. For kids ages 11 and up. They will make a variety of fused, mosaic, jewelry and 3D glass projects. On day 4 there will be a pizza party for the kids and an art exhibit for all the parents.

$500 Screen Printing on Glass
Instructor: Larry Pile, Screen Printing Master and Kilnformed Glass Artist
The class will start with the basics; how screens are made, the differences between powder and wet enamel materials and methods, how to choose and prepare an image for screen printing. etc. We'll also delve into some creative screen printing techniques; the ombre technique, making powder wafers, etc.
Students will each choose and print both a dry and wet image which will be later combined into a single 8"x8" finished piece. Each student will be supplied with a complete set of handouts, including firing schedules, resources, etc. Several choices of images not shown.
Students will leave with technical and creative knowledge about how to screen print using multiple methods and will have the "muscle memory" having printed using each method. You will gain an understanding of images best suited for image printing and have a variety of creative methods at their disposal.
